I have a small studio. It’s way bigger than my old one which was off the kitchen, full of windows and not heated. It also acted as a passageway to the backyard, storage for odds and ends such as oh, circular saws and whatnot. Good thing I work with heatguns! I used to wear those fingerless gloves and every smock I had as I was painting to stay warm.
My new studio has a little room full of windows off to the side which functions as an office AND my daughter’s studio (how many five year olds can claim they have a dedicated art space?) The main studio part has a sink and is lovely. And, I had this awesome antique drafting table. I love this table. I made the entire series of illustrations for a children’s Chinese folk tale (not yet published) on this table. But it’s big. And bulky. And takes up a lot of space. As a painter I like to have walls to hang canvasses on especially when I’m working on a larger scale.
SO, my amazing husband re-configured the drafting table, and with the help of some cool hinges from Lee Valley Tools, made this folding drafting table that folds FLAT TO THE WALL! How awesome is that? I had googled and searched for something as simple as this but nothing was found. Voila!
